Preserve the high value of THERMALLY FUSED LAMINATES (TFL) from its production to its transformation

The high value of thermally fused laminates within the industry lies in the industrial process that adheres this laminate to the substrate of a board, saving the transformer of this product: time, labor, costs of chemical inputs, and investment in machinery, especially when it is used as material for serial production of furniture.

Safeguarding High Value

Although TFL panels such as Duramel Sense are highly resistant and have a long life; like any material, they can deteriorate if they are misused or not properly cared for.

Duraplay particularly recommends taking care of the high value of TFL panels, protecting its original characteristics during storage, distribution, and transformation or machining processes.

It is important to bear in mind that it must be placed indoors and in a dry place when storing this product in volume. It is also good to cover the material with plastics or tarpaulins that protect and preserve it, especially in extreme climates or conditions. It is necessary to avoid storing the product in facilities exposed to strong variations in temperature and humidity and taking care that the board’s surfaces and edges are not in direct contact with water.

Some other storage and handling tips keep the maximum height of 80 centimeters per package or pallet and a maximum stowage of 7 pallets. If the material is moved mechanically in the warehouse, it is recommended to keep the packages’ strapping; this will facilitate the loading and unloading of the product and avoid sliding and rubbing between one board and another.

Recommendations for machining and cutting of TFL Panels

Cutting

In the process of transforming TFL boards for the manufacture of furniture or coverings, it is recommended to make – preferably – straight cuts with a saw. The cut should be made with the decorative side up. If the board is laminated on both sides, it is recommended to use a scoring disc 0.2 mm wider than the main saw.

Saws

Regarding the recommended machinery’s technical characteristics, a motor with a minimum power of 2 hp and 3,500 to 5,000 revolutions per minute can be used. For cutting, you should choose saws with a smaller diameter and tungsten carbide tooth, which increases the stability and quality of the cut. Choose preferably between 48 and 72 teeth.

Drilling

Use a high-speed drill with a straight point steel bit. The perforations in the edges must be made in the center and not exceed 50% of the board’s thickness.

Grooved

The groove’s maximum depth must be 50% of the thickness of the board, groove thickness, no more than 1/3 of the thickness.

These tips will help preserve the quality and physical-mechanical characteristics of TFL, transferring the benefits of this high-value product until the final transformation phase and allowing the end-user of furniture or space to perceive them a better way—the benefits, quality, and durability of this.
